Smoke control system design is a critical element of building fire safety. At Magnus Opifex Seven, our engineers design smoke control systems that maintain tenable conditions during evacuation, support firefighting operations, and satisfy Building Regulations and British Standards. Types of Smoke Control Systems. We design all types of smoke control systems: natural smoke ventilation (AOVs), mechanical smoke extraction, pressurisation systems (corridors, stairwells, lobbies), smoke curtains, and combined systems. Each design is tailored to the building's fire strategy requirements. BS EN 12101 Compliance. Our smoke control designs comply with BS EN 12101 (parts 1-13), covering natural smoke ventilation, powered smoke extraction, pressurisation differential, and smoke barrier systems. We ensure all smoke control components are CE/UKCA marked and performance-tested. CFD Validation. Complex smoke control designs are validated using CFD modelling (FDS). We simulate smoke movement, extraction rates, and make-up air distribution to demonstrate system performance under design fire scenarios. Residential Smoke Control. Residential buildings require smoke control to common corridors, lobbies, and stairwells. We design smoke shaft systems, mechanical ventilation solutions, and AOV arrangements compliant with BS 9991 and Approved Document B.
