Project enquiry — frequently asked questions
- What information do you need to quote?
- The building address, its use, the number of storeys and the height to the top occupied floor, plus drawings and any existing fire strategy or fire risk assessment. If something is missing we will ask for it specifically.
- Which standards and legislation do you work to?
- Fire strategies are developed against Approved Document B, BS 9999 and BS 9991 as applicable. Fire risk assessments are aligned to PAS 79-1 and PAS 79-2 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Higher-risk buildings also engage the Building Safety Act 2022 and its secondary legislation.
- What is the difference between a fire strategy and a fire risk assessment?
- A fire strategy sets out how the design achieves fire safety, and is used for design and building control purposes. A fire risk assessment examines an existing building in use, identifies deficiencies and records prioritised actions for the responsible person.
- Do you work outside London?
- Yes. We are based in London and work on projects across the United Kingdom. Site attendance requirements are confirmed as part of the scope.
- How does the quotation work?
- We define the deliverable, the standards it will be written against and the exclusions, then issue a written quotation for that defined scope. If the scope changes, the quotation is revised in writing.
- Can you review work prepared by someone else?
- Yes. We review existing fire strategies, fire risk assessments and design information. Tell us what exists and what decision you need to make from the review.
