Territorial extent
Section 169(1) states that, subject to what follows, this Act extends to England and Wales only. Section 169(2) lists provisions that extend to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and subsections (3) to (7) set out further extent rules.

Practical application
The Act does not state a single application rule for all of its provisions; whether a given provision reaches a particular building or person has to be read from that provision and from section 169.

Commencement
